Undergraduate Certificate In Sustainability
Explore courses that integrate UN Sustainable Development Goals and fundamental components of sustainability
The Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Sustainability Certificate empowers students to select courses that view different disciplines through a sustainability lens. Students will learn and apply interdisciplinary skills through courses that integrate the UN Sustainable Development Goals and fundamental sustainability concepts.
*The Undergraduate Certificate in Sustainability is currently not accepting new enrollment at this time. Please check back at the beginning of the Fall 2023 semester for updates.
The certificate requires students to complete a total of 21 sustainability course credits:
- 9 credits of SUST course work from the Main SUST Certificate Course List(six credits from outside of the student's major department)
- 12 credits of additional SUST course work from the Additional SUST Certificate Course List(six credits from outside of the student's major department)

Upon completing the Undergraduate Sustainability Certificate, students will be able to:
- Articulate concepts of interdependence and dynamic interrelationships within and between systems.
- Describe systemic limits and the ways in which human economic systems can threaten ecological systems and impose social differences.
- Analyze true ecological and social costs, including the full life cycle of a product or process.
Who can enroll in the Certificate program?
- Any student who is enrolled in an undergraduate degree program (except for the Environmental & Sustainability Studies program) at the University of Utah can enroll
- To enroll, submit an enrollment form for the Undergraduate Sustainability Certificate.
- Enrollment forms will be reviewed two times each year:
- October 1 is the deadline to begin the program the following spring semester.
- March 1 is the deadline to begin the program the following summer & fall semesters.
- Enrollment forms received after the deadline will not be eligible for certificate completion for the following semester

Policies
- Students must complete all certificate curriculum requirements before or during their final semester.
- A certificate completion form must be submitted by the graduation application deadline the semester the student plans to graduate.
